Nieuws van World Press Photo

Royal presence at Awards Days

The 2008 Awards Days will be held from 25 through 27 April. Our new patron, HRH Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands, has accepted the invitation to present this year's World Press Photo of the Year award. The patronage of Prince Constantijn, the youngest son of HM Queen Beatrix, underscores the Dutch roots of our organization. This year's Sem Presser Lecture, a regular part of the Awards Days program, will be presented by Magnum photographer Martin Parr from the UK.

Showcasing the power of visual storytelling

Ten essays by photographers from different countries, all of them former participants in our worldwide training programs, formed the starting point for a new World Press Photo book. The authors enjoyed great creative freedom for this assignment and the resulting publication is a showcase for the power of visual storytelling. Entitled World Press Photo: New Stories, it will be launched at the start of the Awards Days on Friday 25 April. On that occasion, photography expert Dave Clarke will present the results of his research on the impact that digitalization is having on global photojournalism and on the way the developing world is being portrayed in the press.
